Kings Norton Golf Club was founded in 1892 when David Brown, then professional at The Worcestershire, Malvern was paid the princely sum of 15 shillings to lay out a nine-hole course about a mile from Kings Norton Railway Station. By the turn of the century, the course was eighteen holes and the club stayed at the original site until 1970 when the land on which the course stood was sold to the Birmingham Corporation. A move was then made into green belt land about five miles away at Weatheroak in North Worcestershire. Now more than thirty years later, the Club is thriving with over a thousand members. It enjoys a lavish set up with stately Weateroak Hall as its Clubhouse and with twenty-seven championship-class holes laid out in three loops of nine. In the early seventies, the Club hosted three PGA Tour Events and players included Seve Ballesteros, Tony Jacklin, Neil Coles, Brian Barnes, and Americans Charles Coody and Tom Weiskopf. Lee Trevino also played in a charity match against Max Faulkner. In 1992 the Club celebrated its centenary and was the venue for the English County Finals. The English Ladies Golf Union Stroke Play Championship was played at Kings Norton in 1993. Moving into the new millenium the Club has embarked on major improvements to the course and Clubhouse and was host to the 2004 National U14 Boys Open. The Club has now been selected to host the 2006 English Girls Championship.
