Founded in 1891 nd originally designed by Willie Dunn Shinnecock Hills Golf Club first held the US Open in 1896 and has since held the 1986 and 1995 US Opens.
The course underwent a major redesign in the 1930's with Howard C. Toomey and William S. Flynn being the designers.
The course is a flattish links type course with a tough par for its yardage.
Shinnecock is among America's most exclusive clubs, with about 350 members drawn from old money families that summer in the Hamptons.
