Located on the peninsula ofPortmarnock the Portmarnock Golf Club near Dublin was founded in 1894 by W.C. Pickeman, George Ross and John Jameson of distillery fame.
Originally just 9 holes were layed out with a further 18 being added over the years. To start with the course was only accessible by boat, which must have made arranging a round somewhat difficult, but well worth while given the scenery. The course is still worth visiting purely for this reason.
Portmarnock is reckoned to be a true test of a golfers shot making skills. Reservations for tee times can be made through the courses web site.
