The course at Basingstoke Golf Club was designed in the early 1920's by James Braid, a recognised Golf Architect of high quality golf courses. He applied his design skills to provide an interesting and challenging course, which is formed on soil ranging from gravel to clay over chalk. The 6,343 yard par 70 course opened in 1928. It is set in 110 acres of a former deer park and is an old established, traditional English parkland course featuring many well-established native British trees. It is easy walking with no steep hills, and is particularly suited for all ages and standards of golfer. The course has been modernised over the years in keeping with modern golf practices, is excellently maintained and is considered to be one of the leading courses in Hampshire.
