"Situated in the Land of the Prince Bishops , with views of the picturesque Wear Valley, it is easy to see why Bishop Auckland Golf Club is considered one of the treasures in County Durham. Founded in 1894 on land owned by the Church Commission, the parkland course has retained much of its original character whilst being modified to keep up with the demands of modern golf. The course has some of the best fairways you could wish to play from, with the rough, tough enough to punish a wayward shot without losing your ball. The greens are fine and true, together with the 7th hole, which has figured in many a magazine and in the best holes in the North of England, the course is truly a good test of golf for all handicaps. The clubhouse was rebuilt in the 1990's and enjoys spectacular views across the Wear Valley. It is well worth taking time to enjoy a coffee prior to playing, or a beer once you have finished. With the guarantee of a warm welcome and the superb dining facilities, with food to suit most palates, we are sure you will have an enjoyable and memorable visit." - Taken from their homepage
